For coverage for the year 2017, you can start a new application or update/make changes on your application on October 1, 2016.
If you are already enrolled, that is, you were already covered by a healthcare provider through the Marketplace, then you can auto-enroll/renew on November 1, 2016.
On November 1, 2016, you will be given a list of healthcare providers and their plans to choose from. If it turns out you liked your plan from the year before and this plan is still available through the same healthcare provider, then you will be auto-enrolled/renewed on the same plan from the previous year. You will be asked if your income is the same and if there are no major changes to your situation. If this is the case, then the Marketplace will auto-enroll/renew your plan from the previous year, for coverage for the next year.
To confirm, however, it is recommended you call the Marketplace to find out if you don't have to do anything.
If you discover that your state is not participating, you have the option of shopping for insurance at the federal level at the Health Insurance Marketplace. If your state is participating, you can shop through your state's department.
